Visit: Florence Griswold Museum
The Florence Griswold Museum is a ‘must see’ if traveling to or through Connecticut. I tip my Victorian bonnet to Florence herself! As a women in the late 19th century, she opened her inherited home to an assortment of painters (some were boarders) who coined themselves the Lyme Art Colony. Their style varied from Tonalism to Impressionism. They shared techniques, cultured each other and opened the community to the arts. The property sits on the banks of the Lieutenant River where many landscapes exist in the interior rooms today. Along with the estate, you can stroll the campus that includes gardens, a gallery, studios, an education and landscape centers. Such a jewel!
